'Women Against the Lazy Stubble': "No more Excuses for Men Not to Shave!"
  • Actresses Minissha Lamba, Neha Dhupia and Mugdha Godse join the league to support
W.A.L.S in its initiative to get men to shave
  • Gillette Mach3 launches at Rs.125 to extend its support and drive the visibility of W.A.L.S'
    mission across the country

Mumbai, 12th November 2009: Launching the 'Shave India Movement' - Women Against Lazy Stubble (W.A.L.S), a group of young women looking to attract all like-minded women across India, who believe that it is about time MEN made a little effort to shave, are happy to announce that Bollywood actresses Minissha Lamba, Neha Dhupia and Mugdha Godse have joined their league to get men to shave.

To further supplement their plans to expand their movement in the country, Gillette Mach 3 has come onboard to support their campaign by introducing the new razor at only Rs.125 and spread the message that women will no longer put up with the men's lazy stubble. The support from Gillette will enable W.A.L.S to reach a much wider audience through its strong network. Now that the Gillette Mach3 is available for only Rs 125, men don't have any excuse for not shaving.

The message that WALS intends to spread to men across the country is three fold:
  1. Till men don't shave, we will not co-operate with them.
  2. Now that the comfort of Gillette Mach 3 is affordable, there are no more excuses to not be shaving.
  3. If men don't shave, they shouldn't expect women to groom themselves either.

Actress Minissha Lamba strongly agrees with the group's sentiment emphasizing the importance of a well-groomed man, "Yes! Grooming includes several things but the most important of them all, is a clean shaven look. When products that provide a comfortable shave such as the Gillette Mach 3 are now available for just Rs.125 I really don't see any more reasons why men should not be shaving. This is why I've decided to support the WALS movement. Because I genuinely believe, that if men are not willing to look good for us, they shouldn't expect us to take the effort to look good for them."

Actress, Neha Dhupia, says, "If women can spend hours in an effort to look good, then why can't men spend a mere 5 minutes of their time to look civilized and groomed, that is clean shaven? Now that the comfort of Gillette Mach3 is affordable, what excuses are left for men? As WALS believes, I don't think women should co-operate with men till they don't shave and show us that they care about how we like to see them."

Actress, Mugdha Godse reiterates, "The reason I decided to support the W.A.L.S movement is because, I as a woman, empathise with their plight. Men always have so many excuses for behaving the way they do, and not giving women what they really want. But now that the comfort of Gillette Mach 3 is so affordable and just Rs.125, I really don't see any excuse for them to not be shaving. Yes, guys, this is what women want. The verdict is finally out."

Sonali Dhawan, Associate Director, P&G Beauty & Grooming, P&G India commented on the company's support of the campaign, "When we conducted a survey with AC Nielsen last year, we found that over 85% of Indian women prefer the clean-shaven look. W.A.L.S came about to let men know that women prefer them clean-shaven so it is about time that they got up and started shaving. We will do everything to support and scale it up to reach all like-minded women across the country. We have even introduced a new Gillette Mach 3 at an affordable price of only Rs 125, so men no longer have an excuse to not shave"

W.A.L.S envisions bringing together all women in India who detest unshaven and bearded men. With the help of Gillette and the actresses, W.A.L.S will be launching a number of interactive forums, film festivals and workshops to spread the core message of the movement - The clean-shaven, confident look over the lazy and scruffy stubbled look. Now that the comfort of Gillette Mach3 is affordable, there are no more excuses for men's lazy stubble.

While initially starting up, W.A.L.S is inviting women from across the country to write in with their stories on their perception of the clean-shaven vs the unshaven look, things they might have done to get men to shave and any other stories that they would like to share with other women on one interactive platform.
